2012 Renault Twizy

Renault announces UK price for Twizy range from £6,690 on-the-road

Renault Twizy: affordable electric motoring, with on-the-road prices from only £6,690. Renault will have two versions of Twizy on display at the 2011 Barcelona Motor Show, both powered by a 17hp motor: Urban and Technic. With UK prices from only £6,690 on-the-road for arguably one of the year’s most eagerly-awaited vehicles, Renault looks set to send shockwaves through the industry, as well as the corridors of rival city car and scooter manufacturers.

In higher specification Technic trim it will cost £7,400. The monthly battery lease cost for both versions will be £40 including VAT for a 36 month/4,500 miles per year agreement.

The renault-ze.com website is available in 38 countries and has already received more than five million visits, a figure which provides a dramatic illustration of the interest motorists are showing in the Renault Z.E. programme.

Twizy makes city motoring easier and safe:

  • Twizy gets around town faster than a traditional city car thanks to its unprecedented ultra-compact dimensions which also allows easy parking
  • It offers two occupants – sitting in tandem, one behind the other – greater safety compared with a two-wheeled vehicle, thanks to an extensive list of active and passive safety features

Twizy makes getting round town more enjoyable

  • It is more agile than a car, whilst its acceleration performance is comparable with that of a scooter
  • Twizy’s electric motor accelerates smoothly and silently, while torque is immediately available
  • Its wraparound bodywork and side deflectors ensure enjoyable open-air motoring, protected from the elements

The no-fuss, practical all-electric vehicle
Twizy’s battery fully charges in just three and a half hours using a domestic electrical supply via a spiral cable stowed behind a flap at the front. Twizy’s low weight (450kg, including the 100kg battery) directly helps its operational range of 62 miles (NEDC standard cycle). In everyday use, this figure can vary depending on driving conditions.

Accessories for the Twizy lifestyle

  • An all-purpose bag with a capacity of 50 litres
  • Additional protection against the weather
  • A Parrot audio kit including Bluetooth connectivity, plus a USB connector, a jack socket and an Apple connector
  • Rear parking sensors
  • A range of customisation accessories (coloured alloy wheels, decals) enabling owners to personalise their Twizy

UK PRICING AND SPECIFICATION CONFIRMED FOR THIRD VERSION OF RENAULT’S UNIQUE TWIZY

Renault’s intriguing electric two-seat Twizy is set to hit European streets shortly, and as part of the buzz in the lead-up to its launch, pricing and specification has just been confirmed for the third trim level, Colour.

The latest version of the French marque’s trailblazing urban compact two-seater was unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show amidst a plethora of single and two-seat electric vehicles from rival manufacturers. Unlike all of them, Twizy is a production reality, launching in the UK in March 2012, priced from just £6,690 and monthly battery hire from £40.

The new Colour version will sit between the previously announced trim levels, Urban and Technic, priced at £6,950 on-the-road. Its keen pricing sees it pitched at £260 more than the entry-level Urban and £450 less than the top-of-the-range Technic.

Emphasising Twizy’s fun side, Colour comes with white bodywork and a choice of Urban Blue, Ivy Green or Flame Orange panels for the roof and sides. Black bodywork is also available with orange panels for an even more striking look.

The same hues are continued through to its upholstery and glovebox and can even be specified on colour-coordinated, diamond-effect alloy wheels which cost £350. Colour-coordinated half-scissor doors will be available for £455, mirroring its affordable price positioning.

Standard equipment on Twizy includes 13-inch wheels, two gloveboxes, one of which is lockable, 3 metre long charging cable, heated tinted windscreen, Z.E. onboard computer and dashboard with econometer and battery consumption display. Safety and security have also been paramount throughout the project, as is evident from the three-point seatbelt in the front with additional lateral restraint, three-point seatbelt in the rear, front airbag and immobiliser and steering lock.

Unsurprisingly, given its unique looks and low 450kg weight, Twizy is great to drive. With 57Nm of instant torque available, it’s also capable of giving much more expensive cars, not to mention white van men and taxis, something to think about when it comes to nipping around the city. Renault’s intriguing two-seater is capable of up to 50 mph and full charge takes three and a half hours, providing a range of up to 60 miles on the urban cycle. Monthly battery hire for Twizy costs from £40 including VAT, based on three years and 4,500 miles per year.
