BMW M3 (2000-2006)

BMW M3 convertible

The third-generation BMW M3 convertible offers an exciting combination of open-air enjoyment and significantly more dynamic driving performance by comparison with its forebears. The convertible version opens up unimagined perspectives for anyone who wants to experience the sheer enjoyment of the exciting sound generated by the much acclaimed 6-cylinder engine. Lots of pleasure is provided by those double-declutch boosts which the sequential M gearbox supplied as an option initiates automatically when shifting down gears. Like the coupé, the convertible also has a variable M differential lock which develops a lock effect up to 100 percent depending on the driving situation.

The inline six-cylinder engine received the coveted “Engine of the Year Award” year after year. It achieved an impressively high specific output of 106 hp per litre of displacement. At the same time, 80% of the maximum torque was available at 2,000 rpm.

BMW M3 CSL

The BMW M3 CSL was consistently geared to dynamic performance. New, lightweight technologies such as the carbon roof, elimination of comfort features like air-conditioning and electric seating adjustment, an even sportier chassis with shorter springs on the front axle and unique use of cup tyres created a perfect sensation: The BMW M3 CSL achieved a time of 7 minutes and 50 seconds in the super test carried out on the North Loop of the Nürburgring by automobile magazine “sport-auto”. The BMW M3 CSL intensified awareness that low weight and low centre of gravity are indispensable for high transverse dynamics.
