Hyundai has today announced pricing and specification for the New ix35, a model which seeks to continue the car’s success in the UK’s compact SUV segment. The New ix35, which is on sale from 1 September 2013, will feature a number of new standard equipment features in addition to several new optional specification choices – several of which are available for the first time on ix35.
Trims for the New Hyundai ix35 have been realigned and now feature five clearly defined specification levels: entry-level S, mid-range SE and SE Nav and two range-topping trims called ‘Premium’ and ‘Premium Panorama’.
Tony Whitehorn, President and CEO of Hyundai Motor UK, said: “The ix35 is one of the fastest-selling models in our product range with just under 30,000 units sold in the UK since launch in late 2010. The New ix35 will continue this trend as it offers retail and corporate buyers a stylish, practical and safe vehicle that is equally at home in the city as it is out of it. With the latest enhancements, the New ix35 will deliver an even greater level of value-for-money in this popular segment of the car market.”
New ix35 retains the 1.6-litre GDi petrol and 1.7-litre and 2.0-litre CRDi engines, but for the latest model year, Hyundai will now offer Intelligent Stop & Go (ISG) as an option on the 1.7-litre CRDi. Further changes to the engine line-up include the introduction of a six-speed automatic transmission on the 2.0-litre 136PS 4WD model. This will replace the current 181PS unit and bring benefits of improved fuel consumption (41.5mpg combined versus 39.3mpg combined previously) and lower CO2 (179g/km versus 189g/km previously).
The range-topping 136PS 2.0 CRDi 4WD Automatic now boasts lower BIK rates when compared with the outgoing 181PS– now 30% and 31% for SE/SE Nav and Premium respectively.
Hyundai has ensured that New ix35 delivers true value to customers with a comprehensive list of new standard features across the range, which includes LED Daytime running lights and LED positioning lights (like on the New Generation Santa Fe), Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (Low Line* and High Line**) and Trailer Stability Assist. Inside, the New ix35 also comes with upgraded audio and navigation system units for each corresponding trim level.
Hyundai has also made enhancements to the ix35’s existing chassis and suspension set-up, which includes dual amplitude selective dampers and side-load coil springs to improve ride comfort and handling.
The range begins with the S 1.6-litre GDi 2WD manual, which at £16,995 OTR, provides a lower entry point into the range than the current model. Standard equipment comprises of 16-inch alloy wheels, remote central locking with alarm, USB and AUX connections, air conditioning, glove compartment with cooling function, Trip Computer, Hillstart Assist Control (HAC) and Downhill Brake Control.
Moving up to SE trim, prices start at £18,495 OTR for the 1.6 GDi 2WD manual. Standard equipment includes 17-inch alloy wheels , Bluetooth™ connectivity with voice recognition, cruise control, front foglights, heated front and rear seats, LED taillights, rear parking sensors, auto dimming rearview mirror and leather steering wheel and gearknob.
For an additional £1,000 on each corresponding SE model, buyers can choose SE Nav, which comes with Satellite Navigation with TMC, rearview parking camera, upgraded seven-speaker sound system and ‘sharkfin’ antenna

Keyless entry, leather seats and privacy glass round-up the interior features. The Premium Panorama receives the addition of an electric tilt and slide panoramic sunroof as standard fit.

HYUNDAI MOTOR USES ZERO-EMISSION ix35 FUEL CELL TO GROW FOOD
- Hyundai Motor, supported by Deputy Mayor of London, Kit Malthouse, has today unveiled the Fuel Cell Farm – a world-first aquaponics ecosystem powered by the Hyundai ix35 Fuel Cell vehicle
- Public is invited to visit the Fuel Cell Farm, which is a free-of-charge installation positioned outside the front of London’s Design Museum for today only
- London-based sustainability creatives, Something & Son, commissioned by Hyundai Motor, designed the Fuel Cell Farm to demonstrate the benefits of hydrogen fuel cell technology
Today [Monday 21st October] Hyundai Motor has unveiled a world-first – a unique piece of design theatre that aims to educate people about the real-life benefits of hydrogen fuel cell technology. Deputy Mayor of London, Kit Malthouse, showed his support for the project by opening the Hyundai Fuel Cell Farm – the world’s first aquaponics ecosystem powered by Hyundai Motor’s zero-emission ix35 Fuel Cell. The Fuel Cell Farm is positioned outside the front of the Design Museum in London for today only.
Kit Malthouse, Deputy Mayor of London for Business and Enterprise and Chairman of the London Hydrogen Partnership, said: “It’s an absolute pleasure to welcome Hyundai’s Fuel Cell Farm to London. This installation is an imaginative way to bring alive the huge potential of hydrogen technology and I encourage people to come along to the Design Museum to learn more about what could be the most exciting new industry of the 21st century.
“We are getting London ready for this massive step forward in propulsion technology by supporting businesses to put fuel on the ground, and consumers to buy zero emission vehicles. London has been at the forefront of mobility advances through the centuries and that’s where we want to stay.”
Aquaponics is a sustainable farming solution; a combination of hydroponics (growing plants in water) and aquaculture (raising fish in tanks). The Fuel Cell Farm operates by taking the water emitted by the hydrogen-powered Hyundai ix35 Fuel Cell and filtering this water into the fish tank. The aquaponics technology then harnesses minerals from the fish waste to grow the plants on the farm.
Essentially the Hyundai ix35 Fuel Cell, which is the world’s first production fuel cell vehicle, is the heartbeat to the lifecycle of the installation. It powers and facilitates the functionality of the aquaponics farm, using clean emissions (only water) to fuel sustainable agriculture.
To design and create the installation, Hyundai Motor UK collaborated with highly acclaimed sustainability creatives, Something & Son. This design practice is rooted in a long history of British inquisitiveness and experimentation, applied to the creation of a more sustainable world.
Today’s unveiling of Hyundai’s Fuel Cell Farm will be followed by a lunchtime lecture (for invited guests only) about the benefits of Fuel Cell technology. This will be hosted by WIRED magazine and feature contributions from Hyundai experts, key parties who are working on the expansion of the hydrogen network in the UK and installation designers, Something & Son.
After the lecture, there will be a Fuel Cell Farm BBQ hosted by Rosie Boycott, Chair of London Food Board (for invited guests only). Hyundai has commissioned acclaimed eco-chef, Tom Hunt, to utilise the food that has been grown on the Fuel Cell Farm as well as other sustainably grown and sourced produce to create a one-off banquet. Tom Hunt is the founder of the Forgotten Feast, working on projects throughout the UK to revive our cooking heritage and help reduce food waste. He is known for running his kitchens entirely waste free and for only using seasonal and organic products sourced within a 50 mile radius to create real communities through food.
As the first car company in the world to assembly line-produce fuel cell vehicles, Hyundai has accelerated London’s plans to become one of the major hydrogen capitals of the world and will soon be delivering five emission-free ix35 Fuel Cells to the Greater London Authority. These cars will operate in London and be an integral part of the London Hydrogen Network Expansion (LHNE) project.
Two hydrogen fuel stations are already open in the Capital – one of which has public access – with a third to come as part of the LHNE project.
