- Luton-built Vivaro makes its world show debut at the CV Show
- Vauxhall announces new Movano powertrains and Premier Van Centres
- Football legends Graham Taylor, Ray Clemence and Matt Le Tissier on stand
Luton/Birmingham – Vauxhall is celebrating its return to the CV Show in style with the world premiere of the new British-built Vivaro van.
Taking pride of place on the Vauxhall Commercial Vehicles stand and wowing UK show goers for the first time, the Luton-built Vivaro is shown in both panel van and double cab body styles.
The new Vivaro is built at Vauxhall’s Luton plant, the UK’s most productive van plant, where nearly one million current Vivaros have rolled off the production line since 2001. Over €200 million has been invested in bringing the new model to production in Bedfordshire, securing 1,200 jobs in the Luton area.
Over 40 per cent of content for the new Vivaro is sourced in the UK. The plant is also a major exporter with 52 per cent of production destined for European markets.
At the show, Vauxhall will also announce details of new Movano powertrains and Premier Van Centres, its refreshed commercial vehicle aftersales offering.
Premier Van Centres are a network of 100 sites delivering full UK coverage. No appointment is necessary for diagnosis and lead times are no longer than three days. Customers also get a dedicated telephone helpline.
Also on the stand will be UK show debuts for the Combo L2H2 and 4×4 and parcel van conversions of
the Movano.
And if that wasn’t enough, Home Nations’ football sponsors Vauxhall will give show-goers the chance to meet a football legend on the stand.
These include Graham Taylor (former England and Aston Villa manager), Ray Clemence, (former England and Liverpool goalkeeper) and Matt Le Tissier (former England and Southampton midfielder).
“It’s great to be back at the CV Show,” said Steve Bryant, Vauxhall’s Commercial Vehicle Brand Manager. “We are very proud to take the wraps of the new Vivaro for its world debut at its home motor show.”
Vauxhall’s full van range including Corsavan, Combo, New Vivaro and Movano will be on display at the show. Here’s the full run down:

BRITISH-BUILT VIVARO IS SET TO SHAKE-UP MEDIUM VAN SEGMENT
- Fresh look with more space, modern technologies and stylish design
- Efficient turbo diesel engines with best-in-class fuel consumption and CO2 values
- Award-winning sculptural Vauxhall design language introduced to van class
- Laptop holder and IntelliLink infotainment make well-connected mobile office
- Versatile all-rounder in two lengths and two heights with even more load volume
Luton – The new British-built Vauxhall Vivaro is coming – more practical, more efficient and more appealing than ever before.
The second generation, combines the functionality of a light commercial vehicle and the benefits of an office on wheels with the comfort and design appeal of a passenger car. Its predecessor is already a popular and enduring player in the European light commercial vehicle market, with almost 900,000 units built since its market launch in 2001.
With around 50,000 vehicles sold per year, the Vivaro currently accounts for around ten percent of sales in its segment (Van D), making it the top performer in Vauxhall/Opel’s LCV portfolio.
Now the new, second generation Vivaro, coming to market this summer, is set to continue building on this success.
It has everything it takes to succeed: its diverse variants are now longer, enabling increased load capacity, and its cabin features state-of-the-art IntelliLink infotainment technology with user-friendly navigation, as well as equipment details which quickly and easily transform it into a mobile office. The new Vivaro is also extremely economical: under its bonnet are all-new turbo diesel engines which offer reduced fuel consumption as low as 49.5mpg, with CO2 emissions down to 149g/km (preliminary data) – best-in-class values that also impact favourably on owners’ wallets as well as the environment.
“The Vivaro is in a fiercely competitive market, and today’s customers require more from a light commercial vehicle than ever before,” said Steve Bryant, Brand Manager, Vauxhall Commercial Vehicles. “The British-built Vivaro looks set to further strengthen our position in the light commercial vehicle market.”
Two diesels, four output levels: Newest turbo technology for the Vivaro
Advanced propulsion technology makes the new Vivaro an economical and powerful all-purpose van. Two all-new turbo diesels, offering a choice of four output levels, ensure brisk acceleration even when the Vivaro is fully loaded. The engine portfolio comprises a 1.6 CDTi with 90PS and 115PS, as well as the sophisticated 1.6 BiTurbo CDTi with sequential turbocharging and a twin-cooler system giving 120PS and 140PS. Featuring twin turbochargers, this engine combines excellent performance with high fuel economy. The new turbo diesel units’ fuel consumption decreases significantly, with the BiTurbo’s dipping to as low as 49.5mpg with 149g/km CO2 emissions (preliminary data). This gives Vauxhall’s new all-purpose van best-in-class economy. And for those who want even more, a special ‘eco’ driving mode can be activated to deliver still greater fuel savings.
The new Vivaro also provides plenty of power. From just 1,500rpm, the 120PS BiTurbo generates impressive maximum torque of 320Nm, while the 140PS variant delivers 340Nm.
Chassis
With sophisticated chassis control systems and numerous safety functions, the new Vivaro puts its power and performance solidly on the road. In addition to ABS, including Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD), the driver is supported by Emergency Brake Assist (EBA), Hill Start Assistant (HSA), Electronic Stability Program (ESP) with Traction Control (TC) and Roll Over Mitigation.
Modern assistance systems make driving the new Vivaro even safer and more relaxed. It is available with a combined cruise control and speed limiter, as well as a parking distance sensors which helps the driver reverse into a parking space. The driver also has access to an optimum rear overview with the addition of a rear-view camera, while another practical and safety-related feature is the large convex mirror in the passenger sun visor. It can be tilted to a position which enables the driver to see into the ‘blind spot’ area, while also offering better all-round visibility.
Modern mobile workspace: New Vivaro with lots of space and practical details
Flexible, multi-purpose and well-equipped – the new Vauxhall Vivaro can be configured to meet just about every LCV need. It continues its predecessor’s successful concept of diverse variants and is available as a panel van, Combi, double cab or platform cab, in various configurations including two body lengths (L1: 4,998 / L2: 5,398mm) and two roof heights. The new Vivaro is even better equipped to carry loads than its predecessor, as both body lengths are 216mm longer than before. This adds 100mm to the cargo bay in both vehicle lengths for 2.5m (L1) and 2.9m (L2). Total load volume for the panel van is also increased, ranging from 5.2m3 to 8.6m3. Easy access to the cargo bay is provided by the rear doors. Hatches in the front passenger seat and cabin bulkhead also provide an extended load-through option. Alternatively, in the Combi variant, eight passengers can comfortably travel in three rows of seats.
The cockpit in the new Vivaro is designed to provide a modern, mobile workspace. Customers can choose comfort seats with lumbar support that are adjustable for both length and height. All key functions in the cockpit are now positioned in line of sight and within optimal reach, ensuring exemplary ergonomics. These include practical details such as the centre front seat, which can be quickly and easily transformed into a small desk to hold a laptop. Work or other everyday items can be stowed in spaces above the infotainment system on the centre console, under the front passenger seat with 42 litres of storage volume.
The Vivaro now offers optimum on-board connectivity via Vauxhall’s IntelliLink infotainment system, which includes a seven-inch colour touchscreen, Bluetooth telephone connectivity, audio streaming and advanced navigation functions with maps that can be simply updated by USB download. Equipment features such as automatic climate control and a Keyless Open & Start system increase cabin comfort and ease of use.
Simply unmistakable: New Vivaro is robust and stylish
Practical and comfortable inside, robust and elegant outside: the all-new Vivaro brings Vauxhall’s design philosophy ‘sculptural artistry meets technical precision’ to the light commercial vehicle segment for the first time. So for enhanced design appeal alone, it promises to attract new customer groups. The exterior is even more elegant and contemporary, with a large, prominent grille, distinctive headlamps and a flowing ‘blade’ side motif from Vauxhall’s multi-award-winning design language. The Daytime Running Lights come in a signature ‘wing’ graphic and are available with crisp LED technology, giving the Vivaro an unmistakable look. With its clean and practical rear design, the Vivaro clearly communicates the robustness that customers demand from a van during everyday use.
Vivaro customers can choose between two equipment/trim variants as well as 11 body colours. Right from market launch, further specific colours will be available for special-use vehicles, ensuring the new Vivaro comes in an outfit that’s perfect for every business and commercial need.
- Award-winning Vauxhall sculptural design language introduced in van class
- Improved cargo/occupant space reinforces Vivaro’s popularity
- Advanced BiTurbo diesels ensure top performance with low fuel consumption
The new Vauxhall Vivaro combines the functionality of a light commercial vehicle with the comfort and design flair of a passenger car. Coming to market this summer, the second generation of Vauxhall’s best-seller delivers an impressive ‘wow’ factor by bringing Vauxhall’s award-winning ‘sculptural artistry meets technical precision’ design philosophy to the light commercial vehicle segment for the first time.
Complementing its new, eye-catching looks are state-of-the-art technologies and many practical, innovative features, both under the bonnet – diesel engines ensure strong pulling power with advanced BiTurbo propulsion – and in the cabin, making the Vivaro an extremely attractive competitor in this key vehicle class.
Approximately 500,000 vehicles are sold annually in West and Central Europe in this segment, with the Vivaro accounting for nearly ten per cent of this total.
“The second generation Vauxhall Vivaro distinguishes itself with its superb practicality and quality. After 13 successful years on the market, we wanted to make the new Vivaro’s packaging even more attractive while raising the standard of its core capabilities,” says Mark Adams, Vauxhall Design Vice President. “The new Vivaro showcases Sculptural Artistry and technical precision with sweeping sculptural design accents, bold proportions and premium accents. This gives it a sharpened and more refined character, making it the ideal mobile business card.”
Simply unmistakable: New Vauxhall Vivaro is robust yet elegant
The new Vauxhall Vivaro’s exterior is now even more elegant and modern. With a large, prominent grille, distinctive headlamps and the flowing blade side feature from Vauxhall’s multi-award-winning design language, it includes the characteristic forms of the brand’s passenger car models.
The headlamps are executed in high-gloss black mouldings with embedded chrome accents that enhance their jewel-like effect. The daytime running lights come with signature Vauxhall wing graphic design and modern, crisp LED technology, giving the Vivaro an unmistakable look. In all its elegance, with its wide face and clean, practical rear, the Vivaro clearly communicates the robustness that customers demand from the van during its everyday use. Its side design brings sculptural artistry to the van segment, with the signature Vauxhall blade feature flowing from under the side mirrors back to the rear wheel-arches in the same style found on the Insignia family and Astra GTC models.
Depending on how the new Vivaro is to be used – as a robust van or a comfortable large-capacity combi – customers can choose between two body design trim levels.
The Vivaro variant (first trim level) is strong and practical with the front bumper, grille, side mirror housings and the vertical rear mouldings presented in a durable, black textured plastic material. For the Sportive trim level all body elements including the front bumper, side mouldings, vertical rear bumper corners and the side mirrors are painted in the vehicle’s body colour and the grille has chrome accents.
The new Vivaro colour palette comprises eleven standard colours, with five solid and six two-coat metallic finishes. Right from market launch, further specific colours will be available for special-use vehicles. So customers can order their new Vivaro in the perfect outfit for every business and commercial need.
Four-way practicality: Vivaro with two lengths, two roof heights and even more room
The versatile Vivaro is the right vehicle for almost every customer need. The new edition continues the successful concept of diverse variants and is available in various configurations in two overall lengths and two heights as a panel van, Combi and double cab. In fact, the new Vivaro is now even more suitable for transport needs than its predecessor, because in both lengths – 4,998 and 5,398 mm – it is 216 mm longer, for cargo and occupants.
Two diesels: Newest turbo technology for the Vivaro
The new Vivaro is an all-round, heavy-duty workhorse thanks to its modern powertrain technology. It comes with two all-new turbo diesel engines: a 1.6 CDTi, as well as an advanced 1.6 BiTurbo CDTi with sequential turbocharging and a twin-cooler system. Powered by two turbochargers working together, this engine combines excellent performance with high fuel economy. Combined cycle fuel consumption of 47mpg (preliminary data) with the new turbo diesel units is considerably improved. This gives the new edition of Vauxhall’s successful all-rounder top value in its vehicle class.
All the new Vauxhall Vivaro’s standard roof variants are built at the Luton plant in England. Different versions of Vauxhall/Opel’s LCV bestseller developed together with Renault, have been rolling off the assembly line there since 2001. To date, over 900,000 units have been produced. In 2009, a vehicle conversion centre for specialist variants, such as platform cabs, was also opened at the plant, which will further expand its manufacturing activities with the new generation Vivaro. This will enable ex-works delivery of the new Vivaro in many conversions, enlarging the field of Vivaro capabilities for very specific professional uses. Of course, all vehicle modifications meet stringent Vauxhall quality standards.
VIVA VIVARO IN VAUXHALL’S MILESTONE YEAR
Vauxhall built over 44,000 vans in the UK last year, making it Britain’s number one van maker for the 12th year running, according to figures released today by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders.
Bedfordshire-based Vauxhall celebrated 110 years of building and selling vehicles in 2013 and achieving 12 years of manufacturing dominance was the perfect way to round off its landmark year.
Building over treble that of its nearest competitor, Vauxhall manufactured 44,657 Vivaro vans at its Luton plant. UK Vivaro sales, up 34 per cent year-on-year to 18,180, helped drive production. Vauxhall’s offer of four years’ zero per cent APR finance, four years’ free servicing, a four year warranty and four years’ AA cover, was particularly popular with customers.
“We are delighted to be the UK’s leading van manufacturer for the 12th year running,” said Duncan Aldred, Vauxhall’s Chairman and Managing Director. “The Luton-built Vivaro is the lynchpin of our award-winning van range so it’s a fantastic way to round off our 110th Birthday celebrations.”
The Luton van factory is currently ramping up to build the new Vivaro which goes on sale later this year. Facility changes have begun with important upgrades already installed in the body shop.
Significant investment has been made in the project including €95 million in specific plant changes, €112 million in vendor tooling of which €34 million is in the UK and €12 million on facilities.
Over 40 per cent of content for the new vehicle will be sourced locally. The plant and associated agencies directly employ over 1,200 people in the Luton area, and is a significant contributor to the local and wider UK economies.
