BMW 320Cd coupé

When the BMW 320Cd coupé was launched, it broke an even greater taboo than the BMW 330Cd coupé. While the combination of coupé and 4-cylinder diesel engine had previously been an absolute no-go area, these combinations and similar designs now became not only respectable, they were even part of a mainstream trend from 2003. The 4-cylinder turbodiesel engine with Common Rail direct injection generated 150 hp in the BMW 320Cd coupé and already developed the maximum torque of 330 Nm at 2,000 rpm.

BMW 330Cd coupé

At its debut, the BMW 330Cd coupé broke an absolute taboo. Prior to this, combining a coupé with a diesel engine was unheard of. However, the BMW high-tech diesel engine generating maximum power of 204 hp and maximum torque of 410 Nm between 1,500 and 3,250 rpm accelerated the BMW 330Cd coupé in the sprint to 100 km/h within just 7.2 seconds. This was enough to convince many doubters. The turbo lag often encountered was effectively avoided with Common Rail direct injection and an exhaust turbocharger with variable turbine geometry.
