BMW 318Ci convertible

The BMW 318Ci convertible was initially supplied with a 4-cylinder petrol engine generating maximum power of 115 hp. The BMW 318Ci convertible was given a completely new engine with VALVETRONIC during a revision in 2001. BMW was the first manufacturer in the world to present fully variable adjustment for the stroke of the inlet valves with this innovation. The new engine generated maximum power of 143 hp.

When the BMW 320d convertible was launched, it broke an even greater taboo than the BMW 330Cd convertible. Although a lot of prospective buyers regarded the diesel engines in the BMW 3 Series convertible as a bold step, there were few actual buyers who were convinced by the technology. Only 5,411 units of this car were produced and the BMW 320Cd convertible remained an exception within the biggest selling BMW model series.

BMW 330Cd convertible

At its debut, the BMW 330Cd convertible broke an absolute taboo. Prior to this, combining a coupé with a diesel engine was unheard of. However, the BMW high-tech diesel engine generating maximum power of 204 hp and maximum torque of 410 Nm between 1,500 and 3,250 rpm accelerated the BMW 330Cd convertible in the sprint to 100 km/h within just 7.8 seconds. Only a few buyers were convinced by the car despite these statistics. Only 1,735 units of this car were produced and the BMW 330Cd convertible remained an exception within the biggest selling BMW model series.
